Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders

Raising smart energy leaders to deliver a zero carbon africa

Program Overview

The Africa Energy Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders is an education venture designed to invest into the next generation energy leaders who will deliver a sustainable access to energy and ultimately a zero carbon Africa.

The ambition of the Program is to train recent graduates of Physics, Electricial and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building / Construction Engineering, Physics, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Finance and Solar Energy on core aspects of Renewable Energy Technology and opportunities for career advancement in the energy value chain.

The goal is to churn out competent workforce for the renewable energy industry and build entrepreneurs who will advance access to clean energy to 600 Million in Africa without Access and retain young African talent in a crucial sector like renewable energy, of paramount importance to unlock Africa’s sustainable future. The program offers the knowledge of international experts on four groups of renewable energy technologies:

And with a focus on Africa

The Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders (AFYEL) is an education venture initiated by The Renewable Energy Technology Training Institute in Partnership with RETTI Virtual University, government agencies, top Academic institutions and private sector companies.

Reviews from our Fellows Alumni

I have gained both theoretical and practical knowledge in Renewable Energy systems at the Comfort of my home. The training has opened a lot of educational and job opportunities for me and I am very grateful to AFYEL.

I call the AFYEL program a "platform". I gained the opportunity to launch into my career as a renewable energy young leader and engineer through its intensive knowledge incubation. Similarly, being recognized with an Award of Excellence as an outstanding fellow opened me up to great opportunities in very prestigious fellowships and programs. More so, being paired with an exceptional mentor, enormously furnished my entrepreneurial idea into a reality. I have been able to build networks that turned into long-lasting relationships.

The AFYEL program offered me the opportunity to be awarded a full scholarship to take a NABCEP qualification exams from Canadian Solar Institute and eventually led to NABCEP PV Associate certification. Again, through the AFYEL program I got the opportunity to do an extensive research with one of the AFYEL professors which deepened my research capabilities in the energy sector. I have a pool of global networks with like minded and passionate renewable energy enthusiasts and together we drive zero carbon footprint in Africa.

Engr Evan Kraemer's classes on Solar Power extensively improved my knowledge of the Solar Industry and I have become a better thought leader in my field.

Capstone Project

Towards the end of the program, from knowledge gained, fellows will work on a capstone project - an idea which identifies a problem and offers a solution relating to the four main types of energy focal points. At the end of their fellowship, the ideas will be reviewed and best ones will receive an excellence award, business mentorship or Internship.
